Zine: My Liberation Work has been Hella Ableist
After a few years of being deep in [mostly queer, mostly POC] farming and organizing work in Turtle Island, I developed a debilitating, maybe temporary, chronic illness in 2024, partially caused by my work. My illness forced me to reckon with how my own ableism was ruining my life, and how the ableism in my work was at the center of many of our failures. First by force and then by choice, I took a giant pause to rethink my approach. This zine shares my rethinking so far. Part 1 has reflections on what needs to change, and Part 2 has explorations of how it can be better. My intentions are (1) for other disabled people (or anyone whose body has needs, yes that’s you) to feel companionship; (2) for other landworkers and organizers to think about the ableism in our work and why it matters; and (3) for all of us to dream up anti-ableist (as in successful, compelling, sustainable, anticapitalist, fun) land work and organizing.Accessibility:
